-ABOUT JOHANN CHRISTIAN HOFFMANN-

baptised in Leizig in 1683 , son of Martin Hoffmann, who was already a well known violmaker, he stepped into his fathers footmarks as an Instrumentsmaker. In 1712 He became appointed as "Königlich polnischen und Kurfürstlich Sächsischen Hofinstrumentenmacher" (Royally Polish and Kurfürstlich Saxonian Court Instrumentmaker). In 1734 Johann Sebastian Bach, who was a very good fiend of him, transfered to him the maintenance of the instruments of both the Thomas, as well as the Nicolai church in Leipzig. He remained childless. Johann Christian Hoffmann died in 1750.
